Taiwanese e-passport holders can now use New Zealand’s automatic e-Gate system for immigration clearance when entering or leaving the country, New Zealand announced on Monday. The move makes New Zealand the eighth nation to grant this privilege to Taiwanese travelers, joining countries such as South Korea, Australia, Italy, Germany, Singapore, Malaysia, and the United States.
Eligible travelers must complete the New Zealand Traveller Declaration online within 24 hours before their flight to access the e-Gate service. In return, Taiwan will also extend e-Gate privileges to New Zealand e-passport holders, with implementation expected by the end of next month or in December.
Officials said the decision reflects the strong ties between Taiwan and New Zealand, built on shared values of democracy, freedom, and the rule of law. Around 60,000 travelers move between the two nations each year, and the reciprocal e-Gate policy is expected to enhance travel efficiency, strengthen bilateral relations, and promote tourism and cultural exchange.
Taiwan’s Ministry of the Interior added that it would continue expanding similar reciprocal e-Gate arrangements with other countries to improve global mobility for Taiwanese citizens and attract more international visitors.
