Taiwan to Build 24 New Hangars for Expanding F-16V Fleet

Published on

Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense has announced plans to construct 24 new hangars and related infrastructure for its F-16V fighter jets at Chihhang Air Base in Taitung.
The NT$3.7 billion project will include hangars, taxiways, and support facilities, with completion targeted for 2028. The expansion comes as Taiwan prepares to finish receiving 66 F-16V aircraft by next year, all assigned to the Air Force’s 7th Wing, which safeguards the island’s southeastern airspace.
According to the Air Force Command, the new facilities are essential to accommodate maintenance, training, and support needs as the fleet grows. In a separate effort, NT$3.56 billion has also been allocated to build new C-130 hangar facilities at Pingtung Air Force Base, including four dual-bay shelters.
These projects reflect Taiwan’s ongoing push to modernize its air defense infrastructure and strengthen operational readiness in response to regional security challenges.
