Grint’s Return as Weasley Boosts ‘Cursed Child’ Box Office Prospects

Rupert Grint is making a notable return to the stage as he steps back into the shoes of Ron Weasley for the Broadway rendition of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. This marks a significant return for Grint, who last portrayed the beloved character over ten years ago in the wildly successful Harry Potter film series. The actor will be part of the production for 17 weeks, kicking off in February 2027.

Reflecting on his long association with the character, Grint commented on the deep connection he feels with Ron Weasley, having embodied him since he was just 11 years old. Now, portraying Ron as a father brings a fresh perspective to the role for Grint, making the experience both nostalgic and novel. His announcement comes on the heels of Tom Felton’s recent appearance in the same Broadway production, where Felton reprised his role as Draco Malfoy, continuing through January.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child initially debuted in London in 2016 and has since expanded to numerous international stages. The production has enjoyed tremendous success, selling over 14 million tickets worldwide. In New York alone, the show has raked in more than $532 million, solidifying its place as a major theatrical attraction.

Before his upcoming stint as Ron Weasley on Broadway, Grint made his first appearance on the New York stage in 2014 with the comedy It’s Only a Play. Since the conclusion of the Harry Potter films, he has taken on diverse roles in projects such as Knock at the Cabin, Charlie Countryman, and Nightborn, showcasing his versatility as an actor.

Grint’s return to the magical world of Harry Potter coincides with the development of a new television series for HBO, aiming to introduce the enchanting saga to a fresh audience. This continued expansion of the Harry Potter universe ensures that its legacy will endure, captivating both longstanding fans and newcomers alike.
