Taiwan Halts Moroccan Visas, Affecting Bilateral Trade and Economic Relations

Published on

Taiwan has announced the suspension of visa processing for Moroccan citizens in response to Morocco’s recent move to halt visa confirmation letter applications for Taiwanese travelers globally. This action was taken by Morocco under the principle of reciprocity. The change affects the process by which Taiwanese citizens obtain visas upon arrival in Morocco, with Moroccan diplomatic missions now instructed to cease the issuance of necessary confirmation letters.

Despite this halt, Taiwanese travelers who have already secured valid confirmation letters prior to the suspension will still be allowed entry into Morocco as long as their documents remain valid. This provision ensures that those who have planned their travels under the previous guidelines can proceed without immediate disruption.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Taiwan has expressed concern over Morocco’s decision, highlighting how it has hampered travel and the exchange of people between the two regions. The ministry has urged the government in Rabat to reconsider and restore the usual visa processing procedures to facilitate smoother travel interactions.

In response to the ongoing situation, Taiwan has stated that it will closely monitor Morocco’s visa policy developments. The Taiwanese government is prepared to adjust its own visa regulations in accordance with any new changes from the Moroccan side, aiming to maintain balanced diplomatic and travel relations.
