Local Police Chief Declares Non-Cooperation with Federal Immigration Actions

Published on

Minneapolis police leadership publicly clarified the department’s stance on immigration enforcement, stating unequivocally that local officers do not assist with federal immigration operations. The police chief emphasized that the department receives no advance notification of immigration enforcement actions and maintains this policy regardless of federal priorities.
This declaration came during a press conference organized in response to credible intelligence about imminent large-scale immigration enforcement operations targeting the city’s Somali population. City officials used the gathering to reassure community members about local police practices and commitments to protecting all residents.
Federal immigration agencies are reportedly preparing to deploy approximately 100 agents to the Minneapolis-St Paul area for coordinated enforcement operations. These actions would primarily target Somali nationals with final deportation orders, concentrating significant enforcement resources on a specific ethnic community in a particular geographic region.
The enforcement escalation follows inflammatory presidential rhetoric characterizing Somali immigrants in derogatory terms. During official government proceedings, the administration’s leader expressed desires to remove Somali immigrants from the country and questioned their contributions to American society.
Minneapolis leaders stressed that their Somali community consists of approximately 80,000 people, most of whom are American citizens or legal residents. The mayor warned that enforcement actions based on Somali appearance would inevitably result in constitutional violations and wrongful detention of Americans, reiterating the city’s unwavering support for its diverse population.
