Trump Targets Russia’s Oil Lifeline, Demands NATO Join a Total Embargo

Published on

President Donald Trump is targeting Russia’s primary economic lifeline—its oil exports—and is demanding that all NATO allies join the United States in a total and immediate embargo. The President has made this a firm condition for the implementation of any new, major U.S. sanctions against the Kremlin.
In a statement released on Truth Social, Trump signaled his readiness to escalate economic pressure on Moscow but insisted that such a move must be a collective effort. He expressed frustration that some allied nations continue to purchase Russian oil, thereby indirectly funding the very conflict they oppose. “I am ready to do major Sanctions… when all NATO Nations STOP BUYING OIL FROM RUSSIA,” he stated unequivocally.
Furthermore, Trump proposed expanding the economic front to include China, Russia’s most significant international partner. He suggested the unprecedented step of NATO, as a group, imposing tariffs of 50% to 100% on Chinese imports. This measure would aim to penalize Beijing for its petroleum purchases from Russia and pressure it to use its influence to help end the war.
This dual strategy highlights Trump’s belief in the power of overwhelming economic force. He presented his plan as the most efficient way to achieve peace, asserting that if NATO follows his lead, “the war will end quickly.” The proposal now forces a critical discussion within the alliance about the economic sacrifices required to achieve their strategic goals in Ukraine.
