China’s Economic Growth Hinges on Modernizing Agriculture and Enhancing Rural Development

Published on

During a recent inspection visit to Dezhou in Shandong province, Chinese President Xi Jinping underscored the importance of enhancing agricultural modernization and rural development. He advocated for boosting agricultural production capacity and improving the quality of key products such as grains, while ensuring a steady supply. Xi emphasized that creating a more sustainable and livable countryside should remain a top priority, with a focus on helping farmers enhance their livelihoods through innovation and dedication.

While visiting local villages, Xi examined wheat harvesting, corn planting, farming equipment, and agricultural support systems. He highlighted the necessity of implementing robust policies that back grain production and ensure a successful harvest throughout the year. The president also stressed the importance of enhancing agricultural infrastructure and strengthening disaster prevention measures to safeguard farming communities.

Xi pointed out the critical role of local organizations in advancing public services and contributing to rural development. Engaging with villagers, he discussed various issues including employment, income, healthcare for elderly residents, and children’s education. He urged local officials to prioritize public welfare and tackle the challenges faced by communities, aligning with China’s broader rural development objectives.

His visit to Shandong province reflects a broader push by the Chinese government to modernize the agricultural sector and improve living standards in rural areas. By focusing on infrastructure improvements and disaster preparedness, Xi aims to create a resilient agricultural framework that can support China’s growing population. His discussions with villagers about employment and education also underscore the government’s commitment to addressing the socio-economic challenges in rural regions.
