Published on

At the BRICS Summit held in New Delhi, Chinese President Xi Jinping urged member countries to stand against breaches of national sovereignty and external meddling in internal affairs, underscoring that the ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States are not beneficial for the international community. Emphasizing the importance of peace, Xi pledged China’s commitment to working with other BRICS nations to address the Middle Eastern conflict and underscored the bloc’s potential to play a positive role in resolving global disputes while upholding sovereignty and non-interference principles.

The summit, which gathers leaders from emerging and developing economies, is centered on enhancing trade, investment, and addressing significant global conflicts. Alongside Xi, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian are attending, as BRICS aims to solidify its influence on the global stage. This gathering occurs amidst several international tensions, including the ongoing Iran-US conflict, the Russia-Ukraine war, and strained US-China relations.

President Xi’s participation in the summit marks his first visit to India since 2019, reflecting efforts by China and India to mend and strengthen their bilateral relations after a period of heightened tensions. Both Xi and Modi are expected to engage in bilateral talks during the summit, signaling a possible thawing of relations between the two neighboring giants.

The backdrop of the summit includes a complex geopolitical landscape, with BRICS countries striving to present a united front on major issues affecting the developing world. As the group deliberates on economic cooperation and conflict resolution, the presence of key leaders such as President Xi and the focus on peace and sovereignty highlight the growing importance of the bloc in global affairs.
